Funeral/Memorial Service Policy for Adams United Methodist Church

  • In the event of a death, please notify the pastor as soon as possible.  Please do not hesitate to call regardless of the hour.  It is part of the pastor’s duty to the church.

  • Official communication notifying church members of the death of a member and arrangements will come from the desk of the pastor.

  • Funeral arrangements, including time and place of the funeral and committal, the order of worship, scripture verses, and music will be made with the help of the minister before information is given to the press and before the funeral director proceeds with plans.

  • The current minister of AUMC will be the officiant of the funeral/memorial service.  The family may request another person to assist and that invitation will be given by the current minister of AUMC.

  • The use of flowers is appropriate, but not necessary.  Floral arrangements should not block the religious symbols in the sanctuary, if the service takes place at AUMC.

  • If there is a casket, the funeral home should arrive at AUMC 1 hour before the service begins.

  • Family may bring pictures of their loved one to display, as long as they do not block the religious symbols within the sanctuary of the church.

  • The rites of lodges, fraternal, social and civic groups are separate activities.  They are not to be held in the sanctuary.

  • No additional flags or religious symbols are to be added in the sanctuary.  Only the flags and religious symbols that are currently in AUMC are permitted to be used.  With the exception of military flag use.

  • The fellowship hall may be reserved at no cost to the family of a deceased member.
